Art and Design

The Castle Park Art curriculum aims to enrich and develop pupil’s appreciation of Art & Design, through practical exploration of the visual elements, design issues and history of art. History of Art & Design Appreciation is integrated into each unit of work. The children develop the ability to describe, discuss and evaluate each other’s work and the work of artists and designers.

Skills in Art & Design are taught in the early stages of Montessori, Pre-Prep classes and prepare children for the subject in the Prep school, which is taught by a fully qualified specialist Art teacher.

In addition to coursework, children become involved in various whole school art activities. There include seasonal art projects, participation in school and national art competitions aloowing pupils to showcase their artistic talents. As part of the extra-curricular hobbies programme, pupils can choose from a wide range of disciplines of Art & Design, such as jewellery-making, mosaics, mask-making and sculpture.

The Art Department has two rooms which have lots of natural light and stunning views. Children’s work is displayed throughout the school, creating a colourful and stimulating environment.
