Geography

Geography at Castle Park

Geography, along with History and Science, is a core subject of the Social, Environmental and Scientific Education (SESE) area of the Primary School Curriculum (1999). It covers the three main areas of Geography: Human Environments, Natural Environments and Environmental Awareness and Care, through a number of different methods, all of which aim to stimulate children’s learning.

From an early age children are encouraged to develop their geographical investigation skills which include questioning, predicting, observing and communicating what they have learned. This may be done through projects in school or on  field trips. Children are also encouraged to make use of the School Library and the exceptional ICT facilities available to help them in their learning and presentation skills.

As children progress through the School their level of geographical investigation skills will develop. They begin to broaden their sense of space and place to other countries and study natural environments at home and around the world. When they leave Castle Park children have a good awareness of both human and natural environments, as well as the ability to investigate these in detail. They also develop an awareness of their place in the world and how they can contribute to its future.
