Preparatory Department
The Irish Primary Curriculum is taught throughout and greatly enhanced in many areas. Pupils are taught primarily by their Form Teacher for the core subjects of English, Irish, Mathematics, History, Geography and SPHE. Form Teachers get to know each child very well and they deal with any pastoral or academic concerns that may arise. Specialist teachers are deployed for Science, French, Spanish, Information Technology, Art, Music and Physical Education. In addition to the Form and Specialist teachers there is provision to help children who have been diagnosed as needing additional learning support. The School recognizes the special benefit for children of experiencing the senior years of the Prep Department (Forms V and VI) at Castle Park. Leadership, independence and teamwork are fostered, and our children approach the transition to secondary school with confidence and maturity.
The Prep Department day begins at 8.40am and ends at 3.30pm. Pupils have 25 hours of curriculum learning time per week and extensive opportunities for extra-curricular activities from 3.30pm to 4.30pm and day care that includes supervised homework and tea is available until 6.30pm every day in term time.
