We send Ms Prendergast our good wishes as she commences her maternity leave and welcome Ms Kelly who will be her replacement.

Spring Term 2012

Greenwave Initiative

All pupils in the School are actively involved in this year’s Greenwave project, logging sightings of signs of the arrival of spring.  We have been searching for six designated species— frogspawn, primrose, horse chestnut, swallows, hawthorn and ash. To date we have spotted the first three on the list and are keeping our eyes peeled for the arrival of the next three.  Further information on this exciting initiative for primary schools can be found at www.greenwave.ie

St Brigid's Day, 1st February 2012

Pupils in Form VI made crosses from rushes gathered in West Cork during their Science class this morning.

Green Schools Initiative

Work towards our application for accreditation in the Green Schools Scheme continues.  Our Committee meet regularly and have been organising the lunchtime litter patrols in the playground, Form II have shown themselves to be particularly enthusiastic in this respect.  We will be holding a Whole School Day of Action on 22nd February when all class groups will be involved in litter picking and tidying up throughout the School grounds and premises.

14th January 2012

Today pupils from Form VI will be presenting their project on Acids and Bases at the Primary Science Fair at the BT Young Scientist Fair at the RDS.

Autumn Term 2011

28th November - Recycle Batteries

We are supporting the Recycle Batteries for Charity campaign in support of the Sunshine Home and Laura Lynn House.  See www.sunshinehome.ie or www.recyclefree.ie for more information.

14th - 21st  November - Science Week

We have had a very exciting Science Week this year, with all classes taking part in activities related to this year's theme of The Chemistry of Life.  Form VI presented their project on "Acids and Bases" to the rest of the School at Assembly, in preparation for their big day out manning a stand at the Primary Science Fair in the RDS in early January.  We also had a visit from a Heritage in Schools specialist, Paddy Madden, on Tuesday who thoroughly entertained and informed pupils throughout the day with all of his interesting exhibits and his extensive environmental knowledge.  Form V will be heading to the National Stud as part of their Discover Primary Science programme of study next week.

24th October - Green Schools Update

All the newly elected Committee Members attend their first meeting of the year.  A review of new practices such as the introduction of litter wardens and compost bins, and the new notice board outside the Science Room showed that these have been well received and are being used.  In preparing for our application for the Green Schools Award in early December we will focus on improving the segregation of compostables and general recyclable waste and will have a whole school clean up day in November.

Remember - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
