MONTESSORI CURRICULUM
The Montessori environment, which is registered with AMI (Association Montessori International) Ireland and IMEB (Irish Montessori Education Board), ensures that each child is introduced to materials and experiences that help to develop his or her whole personality. The content of the Irish Primary Curriculum for Junior and Senior Infants is followed. Reading is introduced using the phonetic approach and the children are also thoroughly prepared for the Prep Department (age 6+) in Irish and Mathematics. Pupils undertake cross-curricular project work including themes from History, Geography and Science and have regular access to the School Library and ICT suite.
The Senior (age 4 – 5) and Pre-Prep (age 5 – 6) children attend a weekly PE session with the Director of Sport, and the Pre-Prep pupils also have a weekly swimming lesson as part of their school day. The younger children may avail of swimming lessons after school at the Swim Academy. Music is an important provision, and there are weekly lessons for all children with the Director of Music in the well-equipped Music Centre. Performances of Harvest, Nativity, Spring and Summer concerts are regular features of the annual calendar and are very popular with parents and extended family members. |
