Friends of Castle Park
All parents are automatically members of our very active parent association, the Friends of Castle Park (FCP). The FCP organises many social events throughout the year including summer and Christmas fairs, quiz nights, coffee mornings, fun days, evenings out for Mums and Dads and family walks in the local area. Committee members are elected at the Annual General Meeting in the Autumn Term and then meet formally once a term to organise the events. The FCP also provides a popular second hand uniform service.
The Friends of Castle Park incorporates a well-organised group of Class Mentors who act as a Communication and Welcoming Committee – this is particular helpful for new families to the School. The FCP publishes a comprehensive Welcome Booklet with information on a range of services and facilities in the local area including secondary schools, shopping, medical services and restaurants. Following their arrival at Castle Park, the Class Mentor will contact new families, giving details of events and how to contact them.
Saturday Soccer is an initiative of parents in the School, organised on a voluntary basis, in an informal way. It takes place for one hour each Saturday morning and there are three core groups (mixed boys and girls) and for insurance reasons all players must be over 4 years of age. The aim is for the younger children to be introduced to sport in a playful way with basic skills training in the areas of ball control, dribbling, passing and kicking. For the older ones, more emphasis is placed on fitness and introduces more techniques and game tactics. Usually the sessions start with a warm up, have a short period of skills training, and follow up with a match.
