Hockey is played by all girls from Form I to Form VI as part of their timetabled PE and Games classes during the Autumn and Spring terms. It is also on offer as an after school "hobby" for both boys and girls. All girls also have the opportunity to take part in extra training sesions during lunch break.
A series of friendly fixtures is arranged through the season and the Senior Girls' and Boys' teams also participate in the Leinster League, our Senior Grils' team won their League division at the end of the 2010/2011 season.
Summer Term 2012
Hockey practice during Summer Term - practice for girls from Form II to Form Vi will take place every Tuesday during lunchtime, 12.30 - 1.00pm. You just need trainers, gum shield and shin pads - all welcome!
Form III v Kill of the Grange - all the girls got to partiicpate in this their last fixture of the year. We were up against kill of the Grange and what matches they were, the girls played fantastically throughout. Our Form IV girls ran out convincing winners scoring 8 goals, while the Form III girls won their first mach 2 - 1 and drew their second match 2 - 2. It was a lovely afternoon and the weather was finally dry. I hope the girls keep up all their skills in hockey over the summer. Well done to everyone. (Ms A Davey)
Hockey Blitz at Loreto School - our Form II and III girls hockey teams travelled to Loreto Dalkey to take part in a Blitz and although the pitches were very small our girls were able to demonstrate their skills. Our Form II girls were in great form, scoring three goals in their first match and also winning their second match 1 - 0. It was great to see such an improvement in the girls as they were striking the ball very hard and the other teams were finding that difficult to manage. The Form III teams also played very well but were finding the size of the small goals a bit of a challenge and were unlucky not to score on several attempts.
Spring Term 2012
End of Season Report from Ms Davey
Once again it has been a very busy Hockey year for all at Castle Park. All the girls from Form II to Form VI have had many opportunities to particiapte in fixtures since September. We have competed extremely well and that is because the girls have worked hard to improve their skills. As we move on to Athletics after Easter, I will continue to offer the lunch time hockey practice on Tuesday from 12.30 to 1.00pm. I hope to also arrange one or two more fixtures for the girls during the summer term. Many girls have joined a hockey club and the improvement in their skills as a result of this is excellent. This is a great way of making new friends and also developing new skills in hockey. Please see me for the contact details of local clubs should you wish to join one. Well done everyone on a great season!
Week of 19th March
Senior Girls v Kill of the Grange
Our senior girls played another fixture against Kill of the Grange on Wednesday afternoon. There was some lovely hockey on display and all the girls worked very hard. Our A team put in a great second half performance to win 4 - 2. Our B team took a while to get going but once they did they displayed some lovely push and hit passes. Also there was an outstanding performance from Jana in goal, she saved so many shots I lost count. Well done everyone. (Ms A Davey)

Form II v Kill of the Grange It was a lovely Tuesday afternoon for a hockey fixture. All Form II girls were very excited and wanted to put all their practice since their last match into action. That is exactly what they did. Team One got off to a great start in their game, scoring lots of goals. Their pushing and hitting was very good and also their dribbling. Team Two went a goal down early on, but they soon got into the game and started scoring goals. Team One won their game 4 - 2 and Team Two drew 4 - 4. Well done to everyone, keep up the great work. (Ms A Davey)

Week of 27th February
Form II Girls - First Ever Fixture Delgany School travelled to Castle Park on Tuesday afternoon to play all of our Form II girls. The Girls were very excited about this fixture, they had been working hard on their skills all year. A few girls were nervous but once they started playing they really played well. It was lovely to see all the girls so enthusiastic and playing so well in front of all their parents. Our "B" team won their first match 1 - 0 and lost their second 3-2. Our A Team drew their first match 0 - 0 and lost their second 3-2. A great afternoon was had by all and I'm looking forward to the next match already. (Ms A Davey)
Form V & VI Girls' Hockey v Loreto Dalkey We walked to Loreto in Dalkey on Thursday afternoon. It was a beautiful day, and all of the Form V & VI girls were excited to play. Each team played two matches and we won three of these and lost the fourth. There was lots of goal scoring and all the girls really showed how much of an improvement they have made recently. Keep up the great work!
(Ms A Davey)
Week of 20th February
Senior Girls v Delgany - it was a lovely afternoon for a hockey match. Delgany were the visitors and we were all set for a good match. We played two matches at a time and our teams both played brillantly. It was so lovely to see all the Form V and VI girls playing together, and playing so well was a bonus. The girls' teamwork and determination were great, their skills have really improved and they were passing well. We won both matches and there was a flurry of goals for all. It was great to see Madeleine D score her first ever goal and she did it in style too! Keep up the great work girls.
(Ms A Davey)
Week of 6th February
Under 10 AIJS Hockey Tournament - it was time again for the annual AIJS under 10 hockey tournament. We had won this event last year and some of the pupils were
feeling the pressure to retain the title. Rathdown hosted the tournament this year and ran a great event, so thank you to them. We did a good warm up and everyone was ready to go. Our first opponents were St Andrew's who we beat in the final last year with a winning goal in the last few minutes of play. Needing goals, we pushed forward and worked tirelessly in midfield. The goals started to come, with David consistently clearing up the loose ball and we won 4 - 0. Next opponents were Alexandra College. They were tough opponents, however, our players showed off their skills and scored some beautiful goals. The referee commented on our team's skills and said how impressed he was with our level of play. Our last match in the group stages was against the hosts, Rathdown, and we won this match 5 - 0 which saw us qualify for the final. In the final we met Mount Anville School. They had tall players and were very skilful, however, we got an early goal and it stood to us as we retained the title for a second year in row. Well done to everyone who took part, you all played really well.
(Ms A Davey)
Under 12 AIJS Hockey Tournament - This was a big tournament held at Mount Anville School and was run extremely well. Csatle Park entered two teams and put on a brilliant display of skills, I was so impressed with all the girls. Both teams in their first matches scored goals, however, our B team were unlucky to lose in the end to Alexandra College. Our A team won convincingly against St Andrew's. The B team put on a massive performance to win against a strong Mount Anville team but in their third match they lost to St Gerard's. Our A team went on to beat Dundalk Grammer, Mount Anville and Alexandra College to claim first place in the tournament. Well done on your achievements. We all had a fun day out and everyone enjoyed themselves.
(Ms A Davey)
Week of 30th January
Boys Leinster League Match v Sandford Park - another magnificent display by the senior boys hockey team which secured them another point in the Leinster hockey league. The team have now been unbeaten in their last three matches and are playing some of their best hockey so far this season. David M was once again solid in goal while Eoin, Ultan and the impressvie Luke performed admirably in defence. The midfield trio of David H, Tom G and Alex L were hard working and Hugh continues to impress up front. Congratulations boys on an excellent performance.
Week of 23rd January
Boys Leinster League Match - another thrilling match saw Castle Park's senior boys hockey team beat Glenageary Killiney National School 3 - 2 in this home fixture. The boys in maroon started well, scoring early through David. At half time Mr Hillman asked the boys to mark tightly at the back and not to hit through the middle, but to go down the sides. In the second half Tom and Hugh were exceptional and Bas and Eoin remained dogged in defence. Glenageary Killiney had a few very skillful players and before long they were 2 - 1 up. Csatle Park fought back late on and scored an equaliser right at the end of the match. It looked all the world as if the game was to end in a draw until a late winner from Tom clinched yet another victory for us in the League. Congratulations to all the boys and many thanks to the parents who supported us.
( Mr J Hillman)
Form III and Form IV v Loreto Dalkey - It was such a lovely day last Thursday for all our girls to have a chance to play in a hockey fixture. We played two matches at the same time and all of the Castle Park girls were well prepared. We travelled to Loreto for a match last October and it was great to see the improvement that all the girls had made in the meantime. On our last visit we drew one match and lost the other. However, on this occasion it was a different story - Team One won their first match and Team Two drew their match. Teams Three and Four also won, this was a great result for us. All girls now have an understanding of the rules and the positions on the pitch which is great. Also our dribbling and hitting of the ball has improved immensely. Well done to everyone!
(Ms A Davey)
Girls' Leinster League v Teresians School - All the supporters were again entertained to an exciting and thrilling match. We got off to a slow start but I put this down to the Christmas break. However, it did cost us as Teresians pushed forward, scoring a good goal with our goalkeeper, Jana, having no chance. We had a few chances in the first half but many of our shots went wide. Our girls regrouped and many of the subs made an impact and we started to really play. The girls kept pushing forward fast and there was some really lovely skill on display. We hit the ball hard and long, and that's how our goals came. Having been 2 - 0 down, all our hard work paid off as we scraped back those two goals. Teresians pushed forward, Jana made a brilliant save but unfortunately could not save the rebound shot. We were unlucky not to get the draw but all the girls worked so hard and put on a great performance, but lost 3 - 2. Our chances of qualifiying for the finals this year are slim, however, we have one match left and we hope to put on a good display. This is a young team and we have high hopes for next year. Well done!
Ms A Davey
Week of 16th January
Congratulations to the Boys Hockey team who secured a fantastic victory over Killiney Glenageary in their Leinster League match on 18th January. All the boys played brilliantly in the first half and two goals from Hugh meant the we led 2 - 0 at the break. After a dogged second half performance, the boys held on to eventually win 2 - 1.
Autumn Term 2011

Form I:
FormII: Ross
Form III: Toone
Form IV: Edwardes
Form V and VI: Toone
Tuesday 8th December
Leinster League Boys v St Bridget's Castle Park made a great start in their latest League match, this time against St Bridget's, scoring two brilliant early goals. However, a bit of inexperience showed as we let St Bridget's back into the match just before half time. The game ended disappointingly in defeat for our boys but they have gained valuable experience for future matches.
Thursday 17th November
Hockey v Delgany This was a great match for our Junior hockey team, consisting mainly of our Form IV girls, however a few Form III girls have worked hard to earn their places on the team. From the first push back, it was obvious that our team was the stronger. We tackled hard and also hit the ball long and hard. There was some good dribbling and also control of the ball was shown, and it was lovely to watch the girls play as a team. Delgany were under a lot of pressure in defence but soon the girls managed to break this down and by the end of the game we had scored four goals. Well done to everyone, keep up the good work! (Ms A Davey)
Tuesday 15th November
Senior Girls' Hockey v Hollypark We were prepared for a very tough game, knowing that Holly Park are also in Division II of the Leinster League this year, however, they are in Section B and we are in Section A. It was great to have this friendly match against them as it showed many of our girls what the standard is like in the League.
We started very well with Niamh once again showing how hard she can hit the ball. Our midfield duo of Julia and Katie Jane were exhausted with all the running they did throughout the match. We went a goal down in the first half, however the girls recovered well and got the goal back before half time. The second half was slow to get going but we put in a great display of hockey, being unfortunate to lose 4 - 2. This Hollypark team consisted of all of their 6th class girls, and you could tell as they were physically stronger. We are a very young team and look forward to our Leinster league campaign starting in two weeks' time. Well done all! (Ms A Davey)
Monday 14th November
The Hockey Hobby participants had the opportunity to play in a fixture against Delgany on Monday evening. it was a dark and cold evening, however all the girls enjoyed the experience. We got off to a shaky start, being slow to get the ball and our tackling wasn't the best. However, the girls put in a brilliant second half display and came out the winners, 3 - 2. Keep up the good work. (Ms A Davey)
Wednesday 9th November
Girls Hockey v Taney National School This was the girls' first match since the mid-term break, a good chance for them to dust off the cobwebs. We started well with the girls hitting the ball long and hard. Ella had many chances to score but was unlucky being blocked down by the Taney defence. Ava made great runs up and down the pitch, sending some lovely balls to the forward line. Niamh is starting to get a name for herself as one of our big hitters which was evident when she hit out of goal all the way to our forward line. It was 1 - 1 at half time and the girls were determined to score more goals after the break. Rebecca worked tierlessly in midfield putting in some superb tackles and getting the ball to her team-mates. As the pressure mounted on our opponents finally the goals started to come and the final score was 3 - 1. Well done to everyone involved. (Ms A Davey)
Friday 14th October
Hockey Senior Girls v Colston's School, Bristol - It was lovely to welcome back Colston's School from Bristol for a second year in a row. This time they were able to travel earlier in the year which suited both our hockey seasons much better. The Castle Park girls were so excited to welcome their visitors and were keen to chat and socialise after the match.
The weather was not on our side as it was a very rainy afternoon, however, this did not stop some lovely hockey being demonstrated by all the girls. We got off to a great start with a fantastic goal from Mackenzie and soon after another goal went in. There was some lovely teamwork in evidence and I was very impressed by the plays that the girls set up. All our match practice and games sessions really proved valuable. In the second half our goalkeeper, Jana, was call on as she quickly pulled off several saves in a row to deny the visitors a goal. Our girls rose to this challenge and our Form III player, Sophie, stepped up and scored a super goal at the end of the match. The final score stood at 7 - 2 to Castle Park.
Well done to everyone of a great performance and thank you to all the parents for showing our visiting team such hospitality. It was a great afternoon for all the Caslte Park girls who thoroughly enjoyed talking to their opponents after the match and discussing their two schools. Well done! (Ms A Davey)
Tuesday 11th October
Senior Girls Hockey v Rathdown - It was great to see all of our Form V and VI girls playing in a fixture on Tuesday afternoon. We also had help from many of our talented Form IV girls. Rathdown were our strongest opponents so far and our girls had to dig deep in response. Our first team worked exceptionally hard in the first half to be ahead 3 - 1, however, in the second half a lapse in concentration saw a few goals scored and we lost 6 - 3. Our second team worked tirelessly as they were up against a very skillful team. The defence put in a lot of hard work on the training pitch and it was good to put it all into practice. It was so encouraging to see so many of our girls after the match identifying their strengths and weaknesses. A greater work rate will be required when it comes to the League. Well done to all the girls on a good afternoon's work. (Ms A Davey)
Monday 10th October
Form III Girls Hockey v Loreto Dalkey - All the Form III girls once again had the opportunity to play in another fixture. It was great to see them practise the skills they had learnt on their fixture against St Patrick's, resulting in an improved performance today. Our first team had a great win, a real team effort with our defence hitting many balls off our own goal line. Our second team scored a great goal within the first few minutes of the match and were unlucky to lose their game.
There was a big improvement in all the girls this week, especially when it came to their knowledge of positions and rules of the game. I look forward to practising with the girls and continuing to improve their skills so they will be ready for another fixture soon. Well done to all of you, especially Sophia and Viola who have only just started to play hockey this term. (Ms A Davey)
Thursday 6th October
Form III Girls Hockey v St Patrick's School - It was great to see all the Form III girls participate in a fixture together. They all worked extremely hard, it was surprising to think that this was the first fixture some had played in. We won the first match 5 - 0 and we lost the second match 4 - 3. In future we must focus on getting our passes stronger, however, we will address this in training next week. Well done to all. (Ms A Davey)
Monday 26th September
Senior Girls Hockey v Aravon
Playing against a competitive team, our girls put in an excellent dispaly of skills to draw the match 1 - 1. Working tirelessly throughout the match, the girls were unlucky not have have scored more goals by half-time. Katie-Jane and Julia played consistently in mid-field, sending the ball long and hard to the forward line. It was great to see the girls working together and gelling really well as a team, they showed real potential in the match. Well done to all of you, and thanks to all the parents for their support. (Ms A Davey)
Wednesday 21st September
Hockey - two matches against Loreto, Dalkey
These were our first fixtures of the season, and what a start the girls made. All Form VI and V girls had a chance to play, along with a couple of Form IV girls. I was delighted to see the girls' focus and enthusiasm throughout the games. Both teams put on a show of their skills and came our winners - well done! Loreto were surprised by our quick start and hard hitting of the ball. All of the girls produced some lovely long and hard passes which resulted in many of our goals. Well done girls on your great performance and let's hope it continues for the rest of the season. Special mention to our two new goalkeepers who were playing in that position for the first time and did so well. (Ms A Davey)
