SWIM ACADEMY CHILD LESSONSChild LessonsCastle Park Swim Academy provides a comprehensive swimming instruction and lifesaving skills programme to swimmers of all ages. All of our instructors are fully qualified and experienced and follow the Swim Ireland ‘Child Learn to Swim’ programme. This programme sets national standards for the teaching of swimming and comprises 8 levels, all of which have been specifically developed to encourage swimmers to acquire the skills necessary for swimming. It follows a progressive syllabus with each child earning certificates and badges as they progress upwards through the levels.
We follow the Swim Ireland Swim-a-Song program for our parent and toddler classes. This program is largely based on music and techniques can be practised at home in the bath. The basics of swimming are introduced and babies become accustomed to the pool enviornment. Parent and Toddler Our parent and toddler groups are for children aged 6 months – 2 ½ years. We cover the basics of swimming and believe that the earlier a baby is introduced to the water the quicker they can then progress through the levels as children. We cover the following: kicking, body position, streamlining, front and back positions, arm action, floating and light submersion. We teach these techniques through games and play, focusing on the happiness and enjoyment of the babies. Parents get into the water for this class and both parents are welcome!
We run these classes on Thursday morning at 10am and Saturday morning at 9am. All classes are 30 minutes long and can be paid for class by class or termly. However we would stress that in order to get the most from these classes, the children need to come every week. Please click on the link on the left for a copy of the pool timetable and a list of dates for lessons. Water ConfidenceThese classes are aimed at toddlers between the ages of 3 and 4. The classes serve as an introduction to the core lessons which usually start from 4 years old. Basic principles are introduced such as kicking, submersion, arm action, floating and body position on front and back. They improve and build upon the child’s confidence in and around water and prepare them for a lesson type class. The instructor is always in the water for this class and the teacher:swimmer ratio is kept very low. The emphasis is on play and fun, as at this early stage it is very important to get your child happy in water before they progress to the full lesson programme.
These classes are run on Fridays at 3.15pm and Saturday mornings at 9.30am. All classes are 30 minutes long and can be paid for termly. Children’s Lane TrainingOur Children’s Lane Training classes are a great way to introduce children to a structured swimming session. Children should be competent in the 4 main strokes and able to swim a minimum of 20 lengths per hour.
There are 5 lanes that are graded by ability and the main aim of our lane training classes is to develop style, technique, endurance and fitness in a fun but challenging environment. These lessons are a great non-impact way to increase fitness and stamina both in the water and out.
