    Dublin Primary Schools Mini-Basketball Competition

On Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th June 2019, our senior girls and boys basketball squads competed in the Dublin Primary Schools Mini-Basketball competition in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght. Our pupils have been training very hard, almost every week for the past two years, at lunchtime, during their games lessons and afterschool hobbies. They have been a joy to coach and I haven’t seen this level of commitment and skill since I started coaching basketball many years ago. Our Girls’ team won two out of their three games in convincing fashion. We lost our first game to Coole National School and then went on to beat Scoil Aine Raheny and Dublin 7 ETNS for third place. Our forwards: Robyn, Carlotta, Tiril, Emily, Nika and Clara all played brilliantly; rebounding the ball, forcing errors and steals on defence and taking their shots underneath the hoop. Our guards: Anya, Alisa, Ella, Stella, Sophie and Cara pushed the ball on the fast break, passed the ball around the quay to find the open shooter and played team basketball throughout. We really missed one of our star players, Addison, who is a player that can take over a game.

Our Boys’ team played and won all of their four games against O’Connell Primary National School, St Kilian’s Junior School, Ballyroan Boys National School (second team) and Ballyroan Boys National School (first team). Through hard work, dedication, trusting their teammates and a ‘never give up’ attitude our boys came away as champions. The level of basketball in our school has been on the rise for the past few years and we are more than proud of all our players. We hope they look back on these special moments fondly and wish them all the best with their future endeavours in sport.
